It Is Unscriptural To Preach Against Alcohol – Reno Omokri

Reno Omokri, a former media aide to former president Goodluck Jonathan, has said that it is unscriptural to preach against alcohol.

He also said that drinking alcohol is not a sin.

Reno who said this on his Twitter account on Saturday added that wine is drunk in heaven, giving a scriptural backing to his assertion in Matthew 26:29 which says, “But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

Omokri, also the founder of a nonprofit faith-based organisation known as the Mind of Christ Christian Center, said that wine is medicinal referencing 1Timothy 5:23 which says, “Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.

He said, “Drinking alcohol is not a sin. Drunkenness is a sin. It is unscriptural to preach against alcohol. Wine is drunk even in heaven (Matt 26:29). Wine is medicinal (1 Tim 5:23). In fact, Psalm 104:15 says God created wine to gladden the hearts of men.

While the drinking of alcohol if it is a sin or not a sin is still a topical issue among Christians, some Nigerians have been reacting to his tweet in disagreement to his claims.

@EXAGSAM said, “I don’t agree 100%. I can argue all day. Now there’re different kinda wine. Even the same Bible said stay away from strong drinks. There are also scripture that told us to stay away from wine. Now those passages you sight will tell that a little wine for the body.”

@paulinamcbrown said, “I have been following and reading your timeline for a while now, but this one you just pulled is disturbing. Alcoholic wine is different from nonalcoholic wine sir. Some people here as given bible verses already to what you just said. This can make some people to go back to their old life.”

@aliyuabdul11 said, “Drinking alcohol causes one to be drunk and makes him commit sins that otherwise he may not commit, this is why it is prohibited in Islam.”

@vhictorie said, “Yes, it isn’t a sin but alcohol is very addictive. It all starts with a sip and before you realize, you are taking ‘bottles’ of it. What happens then? You get drunk. Why start what will enslave you?

Been a teetotaler doesn’t make you stupid.

This is what I think.”

@OfficialSamkayz said, “Ever since I started taking alchohol, I never get drunk. You know why? It’s because I don’t take more than my capacity. If I reach my limit, there’s nothing you can do to make me consume more.”

@Jchucksee said, “All these u saying are just proving the man’s point, its all teaching against drunkenness…Christ’s first miracle is turning water into wine…The bible is not a textbook u read just to possess head knowledge and quote points, its a book u read, meditate & internalize.”

@wizzymos said, “Mr Bible Scholar, can you please explain this – “After God turned water into wine at the wedding in Galilee, the bible records that the people present were filled with wine”. What does it mean to be filled with wine?

Why did God have to turn water into wine in the first place???”

@ArojojoyeAduni said, “Is ogogoro, Vodka and all the local mixture they sell in Nigeria in that category? You have said many things on your platform. I just hope you will be able to defend all that when we get to heaven. James 3:1 on my mind.”
