Establish Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs — Oluwo of Iwo Advises Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has been urged to consider adding to the existing ministries by establishing the Federal Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs.

This call was made by the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, in a statement on Thursday, July 13, in Osogbo.

Oba Akanbi, in the statement, clamoured for the involvement of traditional rulers in governance and maintained that a separate ministry and constitutional empowerment would address many challenges, especially insecurity,

The monarch also described the place of traditional rulers in a democratic government as sacrosanct.

He also took the federal government down memory lane as he advised them to take a leave from the government of the old Western Region when the Western House of Chiefs was created with First class monarchs serving as Ministers without portfolios.

Oluwo noted that the singular act and the role played by the appointed monarchs contributed in no small measure to the administration’s success.

He pleaded that the monarchs’ to be appointment should be spread across the country’s six geopolitical zones.

“The traditional institution is an integral part of government and closest to the grassroots. The traditional rulers dedicate themselves to serving their subjects. We play a pivotal role in securing our respective domain and ensure peaceful co existence.”
