Primary: We Won’t Disobey Court Order On Obaseki – Edo PDP Chairman

Tony Azieegbemi, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo, has said the party will not disobey court order on the eligibility of governor Godwin Obaseki for its primary election in the state on Thursday.
Azieegbemi stated this on TVC on Tuesday.
Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, a governorship aspirant in the party, who vowed not to step down for Obaseki, had approached a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, asking it to bar the governor from the exercise.
Ogbeide-Ihama in the suit, said Obaseki joined the party recently, and only those who purchased forms during the stipulated window should be allowed to participate in the primary election.
He also questioned the educational credentials of the governor before the court.
Consequently, the presiding judge, EA Obile, on Monday, stopped Obaseki from participating in the election, with the matter to be finally ruled upon on Wednesday.
The party chairman said its legal team are handling the issue, while political solution is being explored to solve the problem.
When asked if all the options failed, will the party still allow Obaseki to participate in the primary, he said:
“We will not disobey court orders. We will not go against whatever the court says. That is it because we are a law-abiding party”.
However, he assured that the matter will be resolved by Wednesday.
“But I’m very confident that we will sort out this issue in court, or out of court, so that by Thursday, there will be no hindrance to our having a very peaceful and well-organised primary,” he stated.
On how the party is preparing to ensure victory in the September poll, he noted:
“Anybody that the more than 2,200 delegates on Thursday pick as our governorship candidate, will win the September 19 election clearly. And i say this not with arrogance, but with all sense of modesty from the political calculations that we’ve done.
“Imagine a sitting governor from the opposition joining you with all his commissioners, with all his council chairmen, with all his SSAs, SAs, special advisers and special assistants, with all his councilors, that is a massive segment of the political class in Edo State.
“We have all that with us now and we have the PDP structure in place. If you ask me, I think it is clear that the PDP will win the election.”
