Iker Casillas Back Off From Spanish FA Presidency Race

Spain’s former number one goalkeeper, Iker Casillas, Monday quit his candidacy for the role of president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
Casillas, who was Spain’s World Cup-winning captain, announced his withdrawal in a statement.
The former international in a tweet said his decision was premised on the coronavirus pandemic, adding that he does not want his bid to divide the federation or country.
“This makes the elections take a back seat,” the 39-year-old Casillas said. “I think it is time to add and not divide, because football and society need it.”
His withdrawal clears the path for incumbent president, Luis Rubiales, to be reelected unopposed.
