Barcelona star Gerard Pique and Shakira announce split after 11-year relationship amid cheating allegations

Gerard Pique, a Barcelona FC defender, and Colombian pop star Shakira have announced their decision to split.

The couple’s split was announced through a joint statement released by Shakira’s public relations firm, stating they are separating for the well-being of their children.

“We regret to confirm that we are separating. For the well-being of our children, who are our utmost priority, we request respect for (our) privacy,” they said in a statement.

The Superstars, who began dating in 2011, made headlines earlier this month after reports surfaced that Shakira caught the professional athlete having an affair. They did not address the claims at the time.

Before calling it quits, the Singer and Piqué welcomed sons Milan, now 9, and Sasha, now 7. Though they were together for over a decade, the pair never tied the knot.
