I Want To Fight Either Fury Or Wilder In 2020 – Joshua

The IBF, WBA and WBO world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, has expressed his desire to face either WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder, or fellow Brit, Tyson Fury, in 2020.

Joshua made his intention known while speaking in an interview on a radio programme on Friday.

The British boxer of Nigerian heritage unified the heavyweight division for the second time in his professional career after he reclaimed his IBF, WBA and WBO titles from Andy Ruiz Jr in Saudi Arabia last Saturday.

With Wilder holding the WBC belt, many boxing enthusiasts have called for the proper unification of the heavyweight division, meaning a title fight between the American and Joshua.

Even though Wilder will take on Fury in a rematch on February 22, the 30-year-old Joshua said a fight between him and one of the two aforementioned boxers “has to happen in 2020”.

“I feel like it’s ‘Lord of the Rings’, the last ring, let’s get it on, let’s make history.

“It has to happen in 2020, we’re in the same division, same era, if these guys want to make history, especially Wilder because he has the last belt.

“We created history by becoming a two-time champion of the world and I feel like we can add to that legacy in 2020,” Joshua said on BBC Radio’s 2 “Zoe Ball Breakfast Show”.

The Briton also confirmed that he will fight either the WBO’s mandatory challenger – currently Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk – or the man in the same position with the IBF, Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev next.

“If I don’t fight those guys I’ll have to give up my belt and I’d rather fight to defend them,” he added.
