Why I moved to UK – Ellen DeGeneres
American television host, Ellen DeGeneres has opened up about why she relocated from the United States to the United Kingdom.
She made this announcement during a live conversation with Richard Bacon at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, near her new home in the Cotswolds.
According to Ellen, she and her wife, Portia de Rossi initially planned to spend only three to four months a year in the UK but decided to stay permanently after Donald Trump’s election win in November 2024.
She recalled arriving in the UK the day before the election and waking up to texts from friends with crying emojis, indicating Trump’s win.
“We arrived the day before the election, woke up to crying emojis from friends and I knew he won”, She stated.
Furthermore, the TV host expressed her concerns about the increasing threats to LGBTQ+ rights in the US, citing efforts to reverse same-sex marriage.
