White Police Officer Saved My Life – Lil Wayne
American rapper, Dwayne Carter, better known as Lil Wayne, has recounted how a white police officer saved his life when he suffered gunshot wounds, while black policemen jumped over him.
There have been violent demonstrations in the United States over police brutality against people of colour, since the death of George Floyd.
His comment comes on the back of criticism that ensued, after he blamed the black community for Floyd’s death while speaking on Fat Joe’s Instagram live show.
Amid heated protests that caused tension across cities and states in the country, Wayne, 37, during an episode of the ‘Young Money Radio,‘ stated that his encounter with the white policeman he called ‘Uncle Bob’, changed his perception about the police.
He said: “My life was saved when I was young. I was 12, I think I shot myself. I was saved by a white cop, Uncle Bob. So you have to understand the way I view the police, period,” the rapper said.
“I was saved by a white cop. There was a bunch of black cops jumped over me when they saw me at that door, laying on the floor with that hole in my chest.
“Black cops jumped over me and ran through the crib saying, ‘I found the gun! I found this, I found that. He (the white cop) said, ‘I found this baby on this floor. I need to get to the hospital.’
“He didn’t wait for an ambulance. He took his car, made somebody drive it, and made sure I lived.”
