Top Streamed Nigerian Artists/Songs After 1month Since Spotify’s Arrival
Swedish audio streaming service provider, Spotify, launched in Nigeria on February 23, 2021, among 40 other African countries, with over 70 million songs, 22 million podcast titles, and over 4 billion playlists.
The platform had only been accessible to African users in South Africa where it launched in 2018, Morrocco, Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia. Other Africans only had access to the streaming platform via the use of VPNs.
The global music streaming pioneer has made some fascinating findings after 30 days with four of the top five most-streamed artists emanating from Nigeria.
This new data is based on Spotify’s user consumption between February 23 and March 22, 2021.
Nigerian listeners seem to be more interested in local hits which has seen a huge boost with the most-streamed track in Nigeria over a 30 day period being ‘Bounce’ by Mavin Records sensation Rema, with Afrobeat star Wizkid following closely behind. His song with Grammy winner Burna Boy ‘Ginger’ made the top spot while and Davido and Teni’s ‘For You’ off the ‘Wondaland album also made the top spot.
Spotify also highlighted the top podcasts and playlists that Nigerians enjoyed during the month in this new report.
