Schools Have Not Resumed – FG
The Federal Government has said schools have not been approved to resume at the moment.
The government provided the update on Thursday in reaction to the recently announced modalities for phase two of the ease of lockdown triggered by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Speaking at the press briefing of the Presidential Task Force in Abuja, Boss Mustapha, Chairman of the PTF, explained that only students in graduating classes (Primary 6, JSS 3 and SS 3) have been directed to return to schools to prepare ahead of their examinations.
He said: ”For the avoidance of doubts, schools have not resumed. Only critical examination classes will be allowed to resume for those who need revision before examinations.
“As we have informed you, the Federal Ministry of Education will consult further with stakeholders before issuing guidelines that will lead to full resumption.
“We appeal to Nigerians to continue to show understanding and to ensure that their wards take full advantage of electronic platforms provided for learning.”
Mustapha, who is also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), insisted that even with some limited measures announced by the government for the education sector, it is still not safe to reopen schools.
He said President Muhammadu Buhari approved the resumption of schools for students in graduating classes so that arrangements be made for them to do some revision before the commencement of examinations.
