SAD: Alison Becker’s Dad Drown Near Holiday Home In Brazil
Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson Becker has lost his dad who drowned in a lake near his holiday home in southern Brazil on Wednesday, according to local police.
Jose Becker who was only 57 years was said to have been swimming at a dam on his property when the accident happened on Wednesday afternoon.
Doroteo Machado Filho, a police inspector in the town of Lavras do Sul, told Reuters. No foul play was suspected.
Alisson moved to England in 2018 to join Merseyside club Liverpool after leaving Italian side AS Roma and went on to be voted FIFA Best Men’s Goalkeeper in 2019. His younger brother Muriel is also a goalkeeper and he plays for Brazilian side Fluminense.
Internacional, who both brothers played for, tweeted their condolences.
“It is with great sadness that we received the news of Jose Agostinho Becker’s death, the father of our ex-goalkeepers Alisson and Muriel,” the club said.
Alisson has established himself as one of the world’s best keepers since joining the current Premier League holders.
The 28-year-old helped the side win the Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup, and European Super Cup since joining the side.
He was also named FIFA Best Men’s Goalkeeper in 2019 and has been capped 44 times for his national team, Brazil.
The death of Jose Becker comes just weeks after Jurgen Klopp’s mother, Elisabeth, passed away.
The Liverpool manager was unable to attend her funeral due to a German ban on travelers from England.
