Rashford Forced Off In United’s FA Cup Win Over Wolves
Manchester United forward, Marcus Rashford, was forced off due to injury in the club’s 1-0 FA Cup third round win over fellow Premier League side, Wolverhampton Wanderers, on Wednesday night.
Juan Mata scored a superb goal in the 67th minute to send United into the fourth round, after he was put through by Anthony Martial.
Rashford was named among United’s substitutes for the replay at Old Trafford, but manager, Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer, threw him on in the second half, which almost backfired immediately.
The 22-year-old has been suffering with a back problem after a knock against Manchester City last week, but scored a brace at home to Norwich in the league, before making a cameo substitute appearance versus Wolves.
Rashford attempted to play through the pain at first, but indicated to United’s coaching staff that he could no longer continue, and was replaced by Jesse Lingard.
However, Solskjaer is hopeful the player should be fit to face Liverpool on Sunday.
“Yeah that backfired but you’ve got to go for them once in a while,” he told BT Sport.
“But it seems like he’s got a knock there and he couldn’t run. Let’s test him over the next couple of days. Hopefully he’ll be okay for Sunday, I don’t know. He’s struggled a little bit with a couple of knocks with his back lately and he got another one which didn’t help.”
After the game, Rashford said he attempted to play through the pain.
United will now face either Tranmere or Watford in the next round.
