Premier League: Man Utd Slump To Third Defeat In Four Games
Manchester United slumped to a third defeat in their last four Premier League games as Burnley powered to a surprise 2-0 win at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were rocked by Chris Wood’s first-half opener before Jay Rodriguez scored with a superb strike after the break.
Wood gave Burnley the lead in the 39th minute with a half-volley on the turn after a simple free-kick routine, with Ben Mee heading the ball down onto the path of the goalscorer.
The Clarets doubled their lead, seven minutes after the break, through striker Rodriguez who blasted into the top corner after a smart exchange with Wood.
Manchester United had a last-minute header from Luke Shaw ruled out for pushing.
But the home team created few clear-cut chances as Burnley held on for their first victory at Old Trafford since 1962.
The defeat, their second home league loss this season, leaves Manchester United fifth in the standings, six points adrift of Chelsea who currently occupy the fourth UEFA Champions League qualification spot.
Burnley move up to 13th place.
