Oscars 2021: Nigeria’s ‘The Milkmaid’ Misses IFF Cut

Nigeria’s entry for the International Features Films (IFF) did not make the cut after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced a shortlist for, documentary features and visual effects for Oscars 2021.

There are nine categories for the 93rd Academy Awards, with at least ten films in each.

Documentary feature (15), documentary short subject (10), international feature (15), makeup and styling (10), animated short film (10), live-action short film (10), original score (15), original song (15), and visual effects (10).

A total of 15 films would advance to the next round of voting in the IFF category.

Films selected include Night of the Coasts (Ivory Coast), A Man Who Sold His Skin (Tunisia), I’m No Longer Here (Mexico), Sun Children (Iran), Hope (Norway), Dear Comrades (Russia), among others.

The films would advance to the next round of voting from March 5 to March 10.

The IFF category, formerly known as Best Foreign Language Film, was first introduced in the 1940s. Films from 93 countries are eligible.
