Only Court Can Determine Legality Of IGP Tenure Extension – Presidency
The Presidency has said that the legality of the tenure extension of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Adamu Mohammed, by Presidency Muhammadu Buhari can only be determined by the court of law.
Buhari had increased the tenure of IGP by three months on grounds that it enables enough time for his successor to be selected.
However, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN) faulted the move saying it violates the constitution.
Reacting to the criticism of tjhe move, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina said that can only be determined in court.
“It is within the prerogative of the President to appoint who the IGP would be, and he has done that.
“Whether he is retired or not, it’s a legal matter. I know some lawyers are in court, the court will pronounce on it”, he said on Channels TV.
