Ondo Guber: PDP Screens Guber Aspirants
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced the screening of nine governorship aspirants vying to contest its Ondo governorship primary scheduled for 22-23 July.
The exercise took place at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday.
Among the aspirants screened were Agboola Ajayi, the state Deputy Governor, who recently defected to the party from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Other aspirants screened were Eddy Olafeso, Bode Ayorinde, Bamidele Akingboye, Godday Erewa, Shola Ebiseeni, Adebanji Benjamin, Eyitayo Jegede and Kunlere Boluwaje.
The aspirants were screened for almost 12 hours by a committee led by Yakubu Dogara, the immediate past speaker of the House of Representatives.
Other members of the screening committee are Senator Zainab Kure, Fred Agbedi, Ndubuisi Agwuama, and Bunmi Jenyo (Secretary).
Speaking to journalists after the exercise, Dogara said the screening is a process which could not be completed in a day.
He said the committee will reconvene at 1pm on Friday (today) to continue the process and then possibly issue certificate clearance to the aspirants cleared to contest the party’s primary.
Dogara explained that the aspirants will be properly screened in order for the party to avoid the embarrassment of having its potential candidate disqualified due to defective credentials, as experienced by other political parties.
The Ondo State governorship election is slated to hold on 10 October.
