Nesta Blasts Donnarumma For Rejecting €8m-per-year Milan Contract Offer

Former AC Milan defender, Alessandro Nesta, has blasted goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, for rejecting the club’s €8 million per year contract offer at 22.

Donnarumma has been Milan’s first choice goalkeeper since joining the club at the age of 16.

The Italian helped the club return to the Champions League, after finishing in second-place behind city rivals, Inter Milan, in the just concluded league season.

However, he has been embroiled in contract extension negotiations with Milan, and has reportedly been eyeing a move away from the San Siro.

According to reports, the shot stopper has stopped speaking with the club, and informed the hierarchy to negotiate directly with his agent, Mino Raiola, over a new deal contract.

However, Marca reported on Thursday that Paris Saint-Germain has reached an agreement to sign Donnarumma when his contract with Milan expires on June 30.

Nesta, who played for Milan from 2002 to 2012, said the club’s executive and his former teammate, Paulo Maldini, was right not to have offered the want-away goalkeeper more money.

“I’m sorry because Donnarumma could have become the flag bearer of Milan. Refusing 8 million at the age of 21 is a great lack of respect and thus I think that Maldini made the right decision. Milan is a special and important club, a club where even the best player must deserve reconfirmation,” Just Football quotes Nesta as saying.

“Raiola has influenced a lot but it is the player who takes the final decision. Insigne had fired Raiola in order to stay at Napoli and being captain of this club at that age one would expect him to be willing to stay.”
