Luis Suarez joins Brazilian club as free agent
Gremio, a team in Brazil’s Serie A, have announced that Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez will join the club on a free transfer and sign a two-year contract through the end of 2024.
Suarez left his childhood club Nacional in October, after only three months and 16 games, during which he scored eight goals and won the Uruguayan championship.
The 35-year-old veteran had previous European success with Ajax Amsterdam, Liverpool, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid.
“One of the biggest in Uruguay’s history, Luis Suarez is coming to continue his victorious trajectory,” Gremio wrote on social media.
“A top goal scorer, a multiple champion, and a fighter. Welcome, Luisito.”
After spending Christmas with Lionel Messi in Rosario, Argentina, Suarez has joined the Gremio of Porto Alegre.
“I wanted to thank you for all the love I have received,” Suárez said in a video posted on social media. “We will meet shortly.”
On January 17, 2023, Gremio will face Sao Luiz in the Recopa Gaucha Super Cup.
