Lionel Messi In Bomb Scare
Bare days after winning the 2021 Copa America crown, footie superstar Lionel Messi was reportedly caught up in a bomb scare in his native Argentina.
According to The Sun, just hours before Messi’s private jet was set to depart for Spain, Tuesday his flight was delayed following a reported bomb threat at the Rosario airport.
It is reported that a man at the airport had claimed he had a bomb in his suitcase. The situation immediately prompted security officials to enforce emergency safety and preventative protocols, with the airport being evacuated and all flights suspended.
“At 11:50am, the airport security police (PSA) activated the preventive emergency plan due to a situation of suspicion,” a statement from the airport read.
“The building was evacuated as a precaution.”
Further reports suggest that the matter was resolved in under an hour, although the incident caused a serious backlog of flights.
The incident comes as Messi, 34, agreed a new contract with Barca, which will see him stay at this boyhood club for another five years.
The six-time ballon d’Or winner is reportedly set to head to a holiday destination in Spain while his representatives and those of Barca work on finalising his new deal in the coming days.
