LaLiga: Barcelona top table after Real Madrid fall to Rayo Vallecano
On Monday night, Real Madrid’s unbeaten start to the LaLiga season came to an end when they were defeated 3-2 by Rayo Vallecano.
The hosts opened the scoring in the first half through Santi Comesana.
Four minutes before halftime, Eder Militao’s header gave Madrid the lead after Luka Modric had equalised from the penalty spot.
However, as Alvaro Rivera’s brutal strike crept in, both teams went into the locker rooms.
With just under 20 minutes remaining, Rayo took back the lead thanks to a retaken Oscar Trejo penalty.
It was Andoni Iraola’s side who continued to press in the remainder of the game, clearly intent on routing their city rivals’ unbeaten streak.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men now sit second in the table behind arch rivals Barcelona, having been handed their first loss of the La Liga season, and they have plenty to ponder after a lifeless display.
