He was a gifted player – Townsend opens up on Chelsea manager, Maresca
Former Chelsea midfielder, Andrew Townsend has opened up on the kind of player Enzo Maresca was during his active days.
Maresca was hired by the Blues’ owners as a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino who was sacked at the end of last season.
Before moving to Stamford Bridge, the Italian won the Championship with Leicester City.
Townsend recalled the time he played alongside Maresca at West Bromwich Albion, which was between 1999 and 2000.
He told talkSPORT, “Enzo was a young kid at West Brom when I was finishing [as] a player.
“He was always a maverick kind of footballer. He was a gifted player, went off to Spain and did very well at Sevilla, and [in] his managerial career, he has shown great promise.”
