Gov. Akeredolu Suspends Activities Of NURTW, RTEAN, Orders Them To Vacate Motor Parks
Ondo state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has banned activities of National Union of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW) and Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) from all motor parks in the state.
Both unions were warned to stop collecting dues and levies from commercial drivers in the state.
Senior Special Assistant to Governor Akeredolu on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr. Doyin Odebowale announced the suspension while addressing newsmen at Government House Grounds, Alagbaka, Akure the State capital.
While disclosing that the suspension was with immediate effect, Odebowale attributed the move by the state government to the recent crisis rocking the unions over leadership tussles.
He added that leadership of both NURTW and RTEAN must vacate motor parks across 18 Local Government Areas of the state as well as to stop collecting money from taxi drivers and other motorists.
Odebowale also new tickets would be sold directly by government officials and urged commercial drivers to revert to the old price of N50 per drop.
He maintained that security agencies had been notified to effect timely arrests and prosecute any defaulters.
