Ed-Woodward Quits As United Chief Amid Super League Backlash

Manchester United chairman Ed Woodward has resigned.

Woodward’s resignation comes amid criticism the club has faced for its involvement in the controversial breakaway European Super League.

The Athletic reports that Woodward is expected to stay with the club till the end of the season.

Legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson was one of those who expressed his dislike over the decision.

Speaking to Reuters he said:

“Talk of a Super League is a move away from 70 years of European club football.”

Manchester United received severe backlash from former player Gary Neville while current players, including Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw, and Marcus Rashford also expressed their displeasure.

Meanwhile, other Premier League clubs involved in the unpopular move – Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspurs – have announced their withdrawal with immediate effect.
