Crisitano Ronaldo Mises Out ON The Premier League Player Of The Season Shortlist
The Premier League have announced the nominees for the 2021/22 player of the season award. Cristiano Ronaldo, who has won the footballer of the month award six times during his years in the Premier League, has not been shortlisted for this season’s prize.
Just a day after Cristiano received the Premier League player of the month award for April, the League have confirmed the eight nominees in the running to win the overall prize for the 2021/22 season.
They are: Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Bowen (West Ham), Cancelo (Manchester City), De Bruyne (Manchester City), Saka (Arsenal), Salah (Liverpool), Son (Tottenham) and Ward-Prowse (Southampton).
Ronaldo winning April’s player of the month award meant he has now received the prize for the second time this season and a total of six times taking into consideration his first spell at Old Trafford. This season, he won September’s player of the month shortly after arriving at United from Juventus.
Manchester United have not had the best of seasons. Not only have they failed to win any kind of trophy, they have also not managed to qualify for next year’s Champions League. Also, they were swiftly knocked out of this campaign’s edition of the tournament.
‘El Bicho’ has been fairly inconsistent in terms of his performance throughout this season. Injury hampered the Portuguese, who has had his disagreements with Ralf Rangnick and his future remains up in the air. His numbers this season:18 goals and three assists across 30 appearances.
