Internet Erupts As Undertaker Retires From Wrestling
Legendary wrestler under the stables of the WWE, the Undertaker, real name Mark William Calaway, has retired.
Making the announcement Sunday, the Undertaker said he has “nothing left to accomplish”.
The 55-year-old US professional wrestler announced his retirement in the latest episode of ‘The Last Ride’, his documentary series, after spending a glittering 30 years with the WWE.
The Undertaker won every championship and event possible, including an incredible winning streak at Wrestlemania that only recently came to an end.
“I’m at a point, it’s time this cowboy really rides away. There’s nothing left for me to conquer or accomplish,” he said.
“This documentary has helped me discover that and opened my eyes to the bigger picture and not judge myself as harshly these last few years.
“I can do more good outside the ring than I can inside. I’m finally at a place where I can accept that.”
Undertaker, however, is not ruling out his return to the wrestling world “in case of emergency” or if Vince McMahon was “in a pinch”.
“I believe I’m at a place now, post-Boneyard, which was a hellacious battle against one of the best in the business. Here you are, climbing on your motorcycle and taking off,” he added.
“There was a lot of thought and a lot of emotion, one of those being ‘are you happy enough with that?’
“It was a powerful moment. You don’t necessarily always get those. If there was ever a perfect ending to a career, that right there was it.
“If Vince was in a pinch, would I come back? I guess time would only tell there. In case of emergency, break glass, you pull out The Undertaker. I would consider it.
“[But] at this point in my career, I have no desire to get back in the ring.”
His latest retirement caused an internet meltdown, with fans paying tribute to the man who lit up the WWE in his day.
Popular opinion: When Undertaker is inducted into the Hall of Fame, he should be the only one in his class.
That’s how great he career is and was.#ThankYouTaker
In the beginning, it was The Undertaker’s character, mystique, and talent that made him a legend.
For 30 years he didn’t want people to see the real man behind the character.
In the end, it was Mark Calaway’s humanity that cemented his legacy.#ThankYouTaker #WWE #TheLastRide
The @undertaker seems like a cool normal dude. My only complaint with him is I wish he would have hung it up a few years ago. I understand it can be difficult, but it gets old to have a farewell tour every single time he performs. Go enjoy retirement!
