FG Admits Inconsistencies In Implementation Of IPPIS
The federal government has acknowledged that relevant agencies handling the implementation of the Integrated Personnel Payroll and Information System (IPPIS), have acknowledged irregularities in it, and are making efforts to correct them.
The government said it has written to bursars of universities to compile all problems that may be peculiar to them.
However, the explanation has not gone down well with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Associated Institutions (NASU), The Independent reports.
It said the university unions noted that government does not need to write them or fix a meeting, before paying members their full salaries and release their payment slips.
While the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has maintained its objection to the IPPIS policy, other unions within the tertiary education system, which enlisted in the payment platform, have been counting their losses.
Many of the unions have issued strike notice once academic activities resume, but the minister of labour, Chris Ngige, has stated that his office has been duly notified of such threats, and is making efforts to meet with the leadership of the unions.
Ngige, while speaking in Abuja, on Sunday, disclosed that his office is planning to apply for a special pass from the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, for a physical meeting with the unions, to thrash out all the contentious issues.
