Four More Persons In Premier League Teams Test Positive For COVID-19

Four new individuals have become the latest to test positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the third round of testing in the Premier League.
Tests were carried out on Monday and Tuesday, with 1,008 persons tested across the league.
The news comes just as Premier League clubs approved a return to contact training on Wednesday, ahead of a possible restart of the league in June.
The affected individuals, as with the previous rounds of testing, were not named.
It is not yet known whether the four new positive tests are players, non-playing staff, or a combination of both.
Anyone affiliated with a Premier League club who tests positive must self-isolate for seven days and cannot attend the club training ground, according to the league’s protocol.
“The Premier League can today confirm that on Monday 25 May and Tuesday 26 May, 1,008 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19.
“Of these, four have tested positive from three clubs.
“Players or club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate for a period of seven days,” a statement from the Premier League read.
Out of 2,752 tests conducted across the league so far, 12 people have tested positive for COVID-19.
Tests will be carried out on Thursday and Friday, with up to 60 people from each club to be tested, the Premier League confirmed.
The top-flight league in England was suspended on 13 March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
All other aspects of Project Restart – the process to recommence the league – will be discussed on Thursday, including the league’s contingency plans on relegation, the issue of the use of points-per-game, and the award of the Premier League title, if the season has to be ended.
