White House Projects 100,000-200,00 COVID-19 Deaths In US

The White House has projected that over 100,000-200,000 persons could die from the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) currently ravaging the United States of America.
Speaking at a press conference at the White House on Tuesday, US President, Donald Trump, said Americans should brace up for a “hell of a bad two weeks” as health experts expect a spike in the number of deaths.

The projection is based on some people not doing everything they can to stop the spread, Dr. Deborah Birx, Coordinator of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, explained.

“We really believe, and we hope everyday, we can do better than that,” she said.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said: “As sobering a number as that [100,000] is, we should be prepared for it. Is it going to be that much? I hope not and the more we push on mitigation the less likely it would be that number.

“But being realistic, we need to prepare ourselves… it will be difficult – no one is denying we are going through a very difficult time right now.”

President Trump called it “a matter of life and death” for Americans to heed his administration’s guidelines.
He predicted the country would soon see a “light at the end of the tunnel” in a pandemic that has killed over 4,000 Americans, as at Wednesday, and infected 170,000 more.
“I want every American to be prepared for the hard days that lie ahead.
“This is going to be one of the roughest two or three weeks we’ve ever had in our country. We’re going to lose thousands of people.
“This could be hell of a bad two weeks. You know 100,000 is, according to modelling, a very low number. In fact, when I first saw the number … they said it was unlikely you’ll be able to attain that. We have to see but I think we’re doing better than that,” the US President said.
