Monguno Absent As Buhari Meets Service Chiefs Behind Closed Doors

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, was a notable absentee, as President Muhammadu Buhari met with service chiefs behind closed doors on Monday.

The meeting took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Those in attendance were the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt. – Gen Tukur Buratai; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar, and the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas.
Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector-General of Police, also attended the meeting, believed to be focused on security challenges in the country.
Buhari and the service chiefs hold routine security meetings weekly, but Monday’s gathering was tagged ‘special consultation’.
The service chiefs were said to have passed through the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, after the meeting with the president.
Last week, a leaked letter from Aso Rock, had revealed that Kyari has been interfering in national security affairs, with Munguno expressing his displeasure over the development.
Following the revelation, Buratai redeployed military officers in the office of the NSA.
