Barcelona To Meet Messi’s Father To Discuss Contract Extension
Barcelona are reportedly preparing to sit with Lionel Messi’s father, Jorge, over a new contract for the club captain.
According to Spanish newspaper, Mundo Deportivo, the La Liga champions are eager to extend the legend’s contract by two years, with the current deal expected to expire in 2021.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner has played for Barcelona all his career, scoring 617 times and providing 251 assists in 704 appearances across all competitions for the Blaugrana.
The report say it is not a surprise that the Catalan club are planning to offer the Argentine captain a new deal, having recently won his record sixth Ballon d’Or.
The 32-year-old has scored 14 goals and provided nine assists in 17 appearances in all competitions this season.
He, however, failed to inspire the league champions to victory over Real Madrid in the El Clasico on Wednesday.
